Ottawa reports more than 100 new coronavirus cases for first time

Provincial data shows Ottawa added 106 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, the largest single-day increase in the city since the pandemic began.

Ontario’s daily COVID-19 update also shows three new deaths linked to the novel coronavirus in Ottawa, raising the city’s death toll of the pandemic to 285.

This is the highest single-day increase in new COVID-19 cases, surpassing the spike of 93 cases last Tuesday.

Ontario added 554 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, a decrease from the 700 new cases reported on Monday.

Ottawa Public Health will release its more fulsome report on the novel coronavirus, with updates on active cases and outbreaks in schools and long-term care homes, around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The local public health unit’s report sometimes revises case counts reported earlier in the day through Ontario’s COVID-19 dashboard due to occasional lags in reporting.
