‘Horrific act of violence’: Shooting reported at Minnesota church, Catholic school

Police in Minnesota are on the scene of a reported mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church on the south side of Minneapolis.

The number of victims is currently unknown, Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin said on Wednesday, NBC News reported.

“There is an active shooter here in Minneapolis… [with] an unknown amount of victims at a church and school,” he said. “EMS has requested mass casualty. … If any of you are doctors or otherwise first responders that could help — it seems to be a fairly significant shooting.”

Governor Tim Walz wrote on X that he was aware of the incident, lamenting that the incident occurred just as children were back in class after summer break.

“I’ve been briefed on a shooting at Annunciation Catholic School and will continue to provide updates as we get more information. The BCA and State Patrol are on scene. I’m praying for our kids and teachers whose first week of school was marred by this horrific act of violence,” he wrote.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives in St. Paul posted on Wednesday at 10:10 a.m. that it was responding to reports of an active shooter at the church school.
