Miley Cyrus Reflects on Her Evolution as an Artist & ‘Something Beautiful’

Pop. Country. Pop? Country?
It seems like everyone wants something different from Grammy winner Miley Cyrus, but she tries not to exhaust herself with the expectations.

Back in 2020, when she talked to us about her album Midnight Sky, she said, “I’ve learned a lot that I don’t always know exactly what I want. I don’t even know sometimes what I want out of one my favourite artists, but they drop a song and I’m like, ‘yup! That’s it!’”

To her, musicians are the original influencers—and they (she) decide what’s next in sound and musical culture.

Cyrus is about to show us exactly what’s next with the release of her new visual album, Something Beautiful, out May 30, 2025. On this album, she sings, writes, and serves as executive producer. It’s the follow-up to both Midnight Sky (2020) and Endless Summer (2023). The song “Flowers” from Endless Summer was awarded Record of the Year at the 2024 Grammys.

When we spoke to Cyrus, she talked about the mentorship she’s received from Stevie Nicks. She felt grateful for the relationship and hopeful that one day, she could be that person for someone too.

“She really takes so many of us young artists like, Harry Styles or Haim, right under her wing,” she says. “It’s really hard to imagine ourselves getting there and so to be able to talk to someone from this perspective that also understands that being an artist when you change, you audience changes, sometimes you grow up and they don’t grow with you, you know? It’s really, really cool to be able to talk to her about it.”

This next album marks another evolution for her.
Will it be pop? Country? Something in between?

Whatever it is—it’s Miley.
