Man charged with 2nd degree murder in Surrey stabbing that left a woman dead and child injured

A man has now been charged with second-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault following a stabbing two nights ago at a Newton townhouse in Surrey.

The Integrated Homicide Investigations Team confirmed the charges Thursday but have not released the man’s name yet.

A woman, who has not been named, died from her injuries in hospital after police were called to a townhouse complex at 12730 66 Ave. near 127 Street around 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Another man and a two-year-old child were also injured in the incident but are expected to survive.

The suspect fled the scene but was located nearby and arrested by police.

Police said early indications suggest this is a case of family violence and all involved are known to each other.

No further information has been released at this time.
